f you had told me three years ago that classic, sunny, 70s pop was going to take over the indie world within the next five years I would have laughed; people who thought that had to be crazy, no one listens to that stuff anymore, let alone performs it. So I fast-forward my mind three years to the present, and the flood of indie pop bands that totally consume the current marketplace, and now I am ready to vomit. A little too explicit? I apologize, but at the same time I cant really help it, with the exception of one or two bands I am very much tired of all these throwback bands.
Luckily Derby is not one of those bands, sure they have a 70s AM Gold feeling to most of their songs, but they also incorporate enough modern Brit-rock and American songwriter mystique to charm this jaded reviewer into some head nodding and foot tapping. They keep their pop sensibilities while exploring the more guitar driven sounds of mid-nineties British bands like Stereophonics or Travis, blending some of the best elements into each other.

“Tired” stands as the perfect example of what this band is a capable of, ear candy for the disenfranchised, and these Oregon natives play it with enough zeal to pull the rug out from under you while handing you a glass of c hampagne, and if you don’t know what I am talking about you need to run out and buy this album.

Highly recommended for those who are sick of sunny pop, but still love the sensibilities associated with it.
