I lament that it took me so long to hear about this super talented phenomenon from Fresno, CA. But as the saying goes better late than never. Kat’s amazing voice greets you, as a welcomed stranger that you are sure you’ve met before but you just can’t seem to remember where. Each time she opens her mouth you can’t help but be struck by the sheer power and beauty of vocal prowess. Songs like “Letters” display how she can effectively communicate searing emotion to your very soul. “The Great Scottish Hurricane” is the perfect pop song but at the same time the lyrics describe the anguish of dealing with hurt in your past. Like the other songs here the music is very accessible to almost any crowd while the lyrics deal with the reality of humanity.
With “The Case” Kat paints an honest portrait of someone trying to reconcile their present life condition with the calling of the supernatural that’s all around them. The impassioned “Sleeping Winter Fool” starts off as a delicate plea then morphs into a nitro-infused scream, the ride this song takes you on is better than any amusement park roller coaster. This song like the rest of them makes you “feel.” The presence of her voice lends more credibility to the words she sings. A lesser singer would not be able to do so. For example when she sings, “just give me once second chance tonight” you can her feel sincerity. There aren’t many of Kat’s peers that are as creative or gifted as her.
